This tour is perfect for those who do not intend to spend much time outside the ship but are eager to get acquainted with the city. The tour gives you an opportunity to see the city itself with its majestic cathedrals and travel to the suburban area to see Royal residence surrounded by marvelous parks.
Day 1. “City tour, Peter & Paul Fortress and Cathedral”
This tour reveals the grandeur of the city that never fails to amaze. The tour includes a must-see visit to Peter and Paul Fortress and Cathedral, burial place of many of the Romanovs.Your route takes you past the Nevsky Prospect, St. Petersburg’s most famous street.
Admire magnificent buildings and palaces, travel past the vast Palace Square, the University Embankment that is lined with buildings of the 18th century, the Admiralty, the famous Bronze Horsemanand much more.
In 1703, Peter the Great built a fortress to protect the area from possible attack by the Swedish army and navy. SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, dominates the area of the fortress. The fact that almost all preRevolutionary rulers from Peter the Great onwards were buried there adds more interest to the historical background of this museum.
Day 2. “Peterhof Park by hydrofoil”
If your visit to St. Petersburg falls during May-September, a trip to the former summer residence, Peterhof that is a reminiscent of Versailles, is a must-see tour. A trip will be even more pleasant as you travel there by hydrofoil.
Peterhof Palace and Park ensemble was almost completely destroyed by the Nazis in World War II but has been restored to its full splendor. Its chandeliers, paintings and other exhibits were fortunately removed before the German occupation.
The gardens are dotted with countless fountains, charming pavilions and summer houses. The diversity of fountains in the park is surprising – from monumental ensembles like the Samson Cascade to the ever popular Joke Fountains, including one which sprays anyone who steps on a particular paving stone.
You will travel by hydrofoilfrom St. Petersburg to Peterhof. This is the fastest and the most enjoyable way of travelling between these destinations. A trip by hydrofoil is available only when the weather permits.
