Private Savior Churche+cathedral Tour
Starting from: €165,00
The Cathedral of Sant 'Isaac of St. Petersburg is located between the homonymous square and that of the Decembrists, one of the most interesting monuments of Russian art and architecture. It is the fourth of the Cathedral with the largest dome in the world after that of St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican in Rome, St. Paul's Cathedral in London and Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. It was designed by French architect August Montferrand and was built in 40 years, from 1818 to 1858. Since 1931 it has become a museum. Currently around one million people visit the cathedral each year.
Then, we will have the possibility to see the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood.
This cathedral is very different from all others in the city, mainly baroque or neoclassical type. Here you can see a rather strong influence of Russian Medieval churches of the seventeenth century, Yaroslavl 'and the famous cathedral St. Basil's in Moscow. It is covered with over 7000 square meters of mosaics, more than it is in the basilica of San Marco in Venice. Virtually all coated with enamel in colorful ceramic tiles and stained glass, lintels, ornamental cupolas, is decorated by 5, with about 1000 square meters of their surface decoration, almost jeweled. The bell tower is decorated with the coats of arms of cities and regions of the Russian Empire played in mosaic.
