Private Church of the Savior Tour

Duration : ~3 hours
Location: St Petersburg, Russian Federation

Starting from: €80,00

The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood  is a church of Saint Petersburg, which lies on the shore of the channel Gribaedova and near the park Michailovksij of the Russian Museum, not far from Nevsky Prospekt. It was erected at the place where he was killed Tsar Alexander II of Russia, the victim of an attack March 13, 1881 (March 1 for the Julian calendar then in force).

This cathedral is very different from all others in the city, mainly baroque or neoclassical type. Here you can see a rather strong influence of Russian Medieval churches of the seventeenth century, Yaroslavl 'and the famous cathedral St. Basil's in Moscow. It is covered with over 7000 square meters of mosaics, more than it is in the basilica of San Marco in Venice. Virtually all coated with enamel in colorful ceramic tiles and stained glass, lintels, ornamental cupolas, is decorated by 5, with about 1000 square meters of their surface decoration, almost jeweled. The bell tower is decorated with the coats of arms of cities and regions of the Russian Empire played in mosaic.
